‘Figo’ On Being Reunited With Monare At Third Club

Sekhukhune United captain Linda Mntambo says Thabang Monare will be a major addition to their squad ahead of the new season.

Monare, 34, joined Sekhukhune on a free transfer after leaving Orlando Pirates and reunites with Mntambo for a third time in their careers.

Having been part of the Bafana Bafana squad that took third place at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Monare is still firmly at the peak of his powers, and his new captain feels it’s just a matter of getting to know his teammates and he’ll be a key figure.

He’s expected to slot into the midfield as a direct replacement for Kamohelo Mokotjo who has since joined Cape Town City.

“Thabang joining us from Orlando Pirates… myself and Thabang have a strong relationship off the field, we played together at Jomo Cosmos, at Pirates and now we’re here,” Mntambo said when asked about Monare’s signing by iDiski Times.

“I think Thabang is a big boy, he’s been in the league for so many years, he knows what he needs to bring [to] the table, the other time my colleagues were asking what we can expect? And I said you can expect nothing but 100% for a player of his quality.

“He knows what he needs to deliver, he knows his mandate as a player, he knows what he needs to do on the field. So with that, I don’t have many problems… obviously with integrating him into the team, all he needs to do is get to know his teammates.

“But what he needs to do on the field, uyazi kumele enzeni, so that’s not much of a problem when it comes to him.”

Sekhukhune open their season against Cape Town City on Saturday at the Peter Mokaba Stadium (15h00).
