Khoza Reveals Why Pirates Appointed ‘Silent’ Riveiro

Orlando Pirates Chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza has hailed the impact of head coach Jose Riveiro at the club.

The Spaniard was appointed as the successor of Fadlu Davids, who left the club, while his co-coach Mandla Ncikazi was redeployed as the Spaniard’s assistant.

His arrival sparked mixed reception as an unknown figure to South African football but a domestic cup double put all doubts to bed last season.

And Khoza said he took the gamble on the coach who lead them to league runners-up, MTN8 and Nedbank Cup titles due to his professionalism and discreet nature.

“Well he taught me what I now talk about, the power of silence, you can see he is a modest person, he doesn’t talk much,” Khoza said what he saw in Riveiro before his appointment.

“I remember talking about it to him, work hard in silence, let the results be your success, he’s a hard worker behind the scenes but you won’t see it.

“He’s of a demeanour that is belying his fortitude, his attitude and his work ethic.”

Riveiro is currently in the MTN8 semi-final against Stellenbosch, where they hold a 2-1 first leg lead while also set competing in the CAF Champions League again.
