Al-Wahda FC head coach Pitso Mosimane has made his intentions clear for the 2023/24 season ahead of their King Salman Cup opener this week.
It’s been a month since Mosimane got appointed as the head of Al-Wahda after parting ways with Saudi giants side Al-Ahli Jeddah after promoting them to the elite league.
Mosimane’s new side has been preparing for the Arab Cup that is set to kick off on 27 August in Saudi Arabia. The South African mentor stated that this tournament will help them as they look to secure the UAE Pro League for the first time in 13 years.
“Participation in the tournament is part of our preparations for the next season, as we look forward to achieving the league title for the first time in 13 years, but we will not be complacent in front of our competitors, and we will do our best to qualify for the next round,” Mosimane told the media according to Al Wahda social media.
Al Wahda is placed in ‘Group D’ alongside familiar faces to Mosimane in Moroccan giants Raja Athletic Club and Algeria champions CR Belouizdad, and Kuwait champions Al-Kuwait who is the only unfamiliar side to Mosimane.
“I previously faced Belouizdad and Raja in the CAF Champions League when I was coach of Al-Ahly of Egypt, and they are two strong teams, and we have to focus and fight for qualification, and I am confident that my players will do their best in the tournament.
“I do not know the Kuwait team well, but they managed to score two goals a few days ago against Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia, which reflects the fact that it is a good team and we have to focus in front of it to win match points.”
