Mshishi On Rulani Exit And Experience With Folz

Mamelodi Sundowns captain Themba Zwane has opened up on the off-season exit of Rulani Mokwena and the experience with new assistant coach Romain Folz.

Zwane stated that he was positive about the new season and that Manqoba Mngqithi and Steve Komphela being there is still some form of continuity in the group.

Mokwena parted ways with Sundowns and has since joined Botola Pro giants Wydad Athletic Club while Komphela returned as Senior First Team coach and Mngqithi who neither confirmed nor denied will assume a Head Coach role.

“Obviously as players when we saw the news, we had to encourage one another, try to support one another, knowing for sure the decisions made in football,” he said.

“We [must] try and respect the decisions of the team and try to encourage the guys that the goal remains the same, competing for all trophies. I feel like the mood… the mood is fine, and brotherhood.

“For us, there’s continuity [with the coaches] as much as feel we’re adding [something new in the style of play] that will help us in all our games we’re going to play and try to improve the team.”

When asked about what Folz has brought to the team, having joined them as an assistant coach whilst in pre-season in Austria, Zwane admitted he’s yet to fully immerse himself in the team but has been impressed thus far.

“He’s a good coach, an intelligent coach and for now,” he stated at the MTN8 media launch earlier this week.

“He’s still quiet [in the group] but we know going forward he will loosen up and yeah [integrate].”

Sundowns open their MTN8 campaign against Polokwane City at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Sunday, August 11, at 15h00.
