Stellenbosch FC have confirmed that attacking midfielder Junior Mendieta has joined Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mendieta, who turned 30 last week, moves to Chloorkop after spending three seasons in the Winelands after joining Stellenbosch in 2021 from Lanus 2.
He had a standout campaign in 2022/23, scoring nine goals and setting up eight more in the DStv Premiership, but somewhat surprisingly was snubbed for any individual awards.
On Monday, Stellies confirmed the player’s exit after he penned a four-year deal with Masandawana, as previously reported by iDiski Times.
“Júnior Mendieta has completed a permanent transfer to Mamelodi Sundowns,” they stated.
“The club would like to thank him for his immense contributions over the last three seasons and wish him well in the next chapter of his career.
Minutes later, the signing was also confirmed by his new club.
Mendieta becomes Sundowns’ second official signing after Lesiba Nku from Marumo Gallants.
Overall, Mendieta made 79 appearances for Stellenbosch, scoring 15 goals and assisting 15 more.
