Bafana Bafana could get a bye over Zimbabwe in the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers – which would leave them with only four games in Group K.
South Africa were pitted alongside the Warriors, Liberia and North African giants Morocco at the official draw in Johannesburg on Tuesday evening.
However, questions marks surrounding whether they will compete with four teams as ZIFA are currently banned by FIFA until further notice due to government interference in their football federation.
Kenya, who are in Group B with Cameroon, Namibia and Burundi – could suffer the same fate of being kicked out of the qualifiers that kicks off in June, with the FKF also banned by the World Football Governing Body for the same reason.
CAF and FIFA have made it clear that if their internal issues aren’t sorted out within the coming months – they will uphold their ban from all football-related activities.
