Pitso Reacts To Win Over Downs
Pitso Mosimane was full of praise for Mamelodi Sundowns’ “beautiful football” despite beating them 2-0 in the their first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-final.
The South African saw his side secure an important 2-0 win at home against his former side following goals by Mohamed Taher and Salah Mohsen.
After the game, Mosimane expressed his admiration for the way Downs played – different to when he was the coach of the team – but was quick to point out that football is about goals and results.
“We are going through a marathon of difficult games. We are going through a period of three days, two days in between the games. We are going through adversity but we march on,” he explained in his post-match press conference.
“We don’t have excuses and it is difficult. But we are Al Ahly, we are a big team. We had a difficult match. Sundowns are a very difficult team. You could see the passing. You could see the movements.
“It’s unbelievable, they are a good team. And as I said they are the favourites to win the Champions League, because of the way they play.
“It was very difficult in the second half, but we needed patience and we needed to play smart. Because if you become too emotional, because you are playing at home. They will hurt you because they are a good team.
“Yes, of course, El Shenawi made one of the biggest saves but that is part of football. But we know we made a lot of mistakes. I was frustrated also. But you must know they played differently from the way I used to make them play.
“They play pretty football, beautiful to watch, but football is about results, it is about the goals. We got the goals and that is what we needed. And if you want to go through, you must score the goals.”
