Primo Joins The Bayhill Family

Next month’s Bayhill Premier Cup in Cape Town has a new sponsor after Primo Sportswear was unveiled by the organisers of South Africa’s most prestigious U19 tournament.

The Bayhill will take place from the 27th of March until the 1st of April, with the first five days of action at Erica Park, before the final day at Athlone Stadium.

On Friday, Primo Sportswear was unveiled as one of the main sponsors, signing a three year deal with Premier Cup.

Primo Managing Director Gian Chidoni could not hide his enthusiasm for this deal. Chidoni is not only the MD, but he is also a former footballer, while the Chidoni family have long been involved in the football industry, having previously owned ABC Motsepe outfit, Durban Football Club.

“I’m very excited honestly, knowing what the tournament is, how powerful it is, what it’s done for so many players over the years, having been a player, having owned a club,” Chidoni told iDiski Times at their unveiling.

“It’s a bigger moment than just signing a sponsorship deal and putting your brand in, it’s what you’re putting your brand on. So being in the football space gives me a deep appreciation. So this moment, standing here with maybe some butterflies and excitement, it’s big. It’s big for us.

“It’s a big legacy. It also comes with a responsibility now for us as a brand. It’s a big tournament prestigious tournament, to put our brand on is great for our brand, but we’ve got a responsibility to make sure that we uplift it, we protect it and we make everyone look good, because that’s what it requires.”

Chidoni explained that Primo is relatively new in the market, and are looking to create affordable high quality sportswear.

“We’re here to play!” Chidoni explained.

“So Primo is reasonably new, new in the market in South Africa. It was born out of a passion for the game. The family has been in the clothing business a long time, we decided with that passion, let’s do something with it. We created the sportswear brand to offer the market something they can afford, amazing quality for a price.

“We are not here to compete with Adidas and Nike, we here to offer exceptional value. The product needs to be on trend, but the value has got to be there. And I think with our offering we can do good things in Cape Town.

“I think they’re crying out for a value brand that is servicing all of their needs, but people can afford it. So the intention is to come into Cape Town and service all the clubs, everyone.”
