Upset Ayew Slams Gabon Antics
An upset Ghana captain Andre Ayew has slammed the antics of Group C opponents Gabon during their Africa Cup of Nations clash on Friday.
The Ghanaians were visibly enraged after the match as players and officials from both teams clashed following the final whistle of their 1-1 stalemate.
Gabon had scored two minutes from time to cancel out Ayew’s opening goal, however, the Ghana skipper explained that his side were upset with Gabon’s sportsmanship after they didn’t return the ball when the Black Stars had kicked it out for their injured player Daniel-Kofi-Kyereh to receive medical attention.
“I don’t understand this question because were you also watching the game? Then you know what happened,” Ayew said in the post-match press conference when being asked why his side were so furious after the 90 minutes.
“A Ghanaian player was [lying] on the floor. We had the ball, we put the ball out, intentionally, because our player was on the field.
“So when the ball is coming [back], you Gabon take the ball and give it back to Ghana. Simple as that.
“So we were waiting for the ball to come back and the ball is not coming back. And that’s how they got their only open chance of the game. That is it.
“It’s very small of them, very small I’m disappointed in them, but no problem. We are Ghana, we’re going to win the last game and go through.”
Ghana dropped to third place in Group C behind Gabon with four points and Morocco with six. However, they still have a chance to qualify for the last 16, if they can beat Comoros in their final group stage encounter.
