Mhango Produces MOTM Display

Orlando Pirates and Malawi striker Gabadinho Mhango has reacted to winning the Man of the Match honour in their 2-0 win over Zimbabwe at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Prior to his arrival in Cameroon with the Flames, Mhango played just 132 minutes of DStv Premiership football due to injuries and off the field issues.

He quickly dispelled any fears about his readiness to compete at the continental showpiece with a tirless display with goals in each half to seal a comeback victory after JDR Stars winger Ishmael Wadi put the Warriors ahead.

“I think nothing is easy, the opponent, we also lost the last game – so this game was tough for us you know. We knew Zimbabwe vs Malawi, there were nerves,” he said after the game on SuperSport TV.

“We had to push and give more effort, 120 percent to get here now, but at the end of the day I must say thanks to my teammates [for the Man of the Match honour], I think we [all] deserve this.”

The 29-year-old has now scored 14 goals in 56 appearances for his country since making his debut in 2012 as a teenager.
