Bafana Striker Makes History In 4-0 Thrashing

Victor Letsoalo scored a hat trick on debut as Bafana Bafana beat Lesotho 4-0 in the Cosafa Cup at the Nelson Mandela Stadium on Tuesday to confirm their spot in the semi-finals with game still to play.

There was a chance for Letsoalo as early as in the opening minute, but he missed out as the ball went wide.

But the Bloemfontein Celtic striker made no mistake in the 4th minute, as he scored his first goal for South Africa, with a great header from a Sifiso Ngobeni cross.

It was a much brighter start from Bafana, who for the first time in the competition had a full squad available, with just Ethan Brooks unavailable due to injury.

Sphelele Mkhulise made it 2-0 to Bafana on the 19th minute, as he followed up to score after Nyiko Mobbie’s initial effort was saved by Jessie Matsie.

Lesotho had a rare chance in the 35th minute, but Veli Mothwa made light work in saving Motebang Sera’s effort.

Monnabule Saleng almost made it three in the 41st minute, but his effort from a free kick struck the crossbar.

But it was 3-0 two minutes later as Letsoalo got his second, chipping Matsie after he pounced on a defensive error.

A comfortable lead for Bafana at halftime.

Second half substitute Kagiso Malinga tried one from range in the 52nd minute, but it went wide of goal.

Letsoalo completed his hat trick in the 58th minute, with a simple tap in. A first ever hat trick on debut for a Bafana player.

The victory ensured Bafana win Group A, as they moved on to nine points, with tomorrow’s game against Zambia still to play.
