Stuart Baxter has given an update on Khama Billiat after he gave fans an injury-scare during the recent Soweto Derby.
Billiat started Chiefs’ 4-3 win on penalties in the Carling Black Label Cup over rivals Orlando Pirates but was down for treatment in the second half.
Baxter later revealed that Billiat was taken off as a precaution but it’s not a serious injury.
“Khama was a precaution,” the Chiefs coach said after the game.
“He was out for a long time and then came back. We rushed him in a way to be available for the (CAF Champions League) final.
“He was sharp in the training building up to the final. I was tempted to start him but he hadn’t played any games. So it was probably wise not to give him more than a half.
“But we had planned that Khama would come in at half-time, as it turned it was with 10 men.
“Khama’s injury was not the injury he came off with tonight. He started cramping badly which was an indication that fatigue was setting in.
“We didn’t want a hamstring to go or a groin to pop, so we took him (off). Even though it was an important game to get the result, we took him out.”
Billiat was out for a long time after a fractured leg in the 2020/21 campaign, but is seemingly raring to go for the new season.
