Baxter Reacts To Chiefs Win Vs ‘Hoodoo Team’
Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has reacted to his side’s 1-0 win against ‘hoodoo team’ Maritzburg United.
The Glamour Boys have now won four of their last six games and moved to 18 points on the DStv Premiership log.
Baxter was pleased with his side’s display after only collecting the second win at Maritzburg since 2009.
“I thought we opened well, played 20 minutes better football, than we allowed spaces to develop,” he told SuperSport tv.
“We didn’t squeeze the line and Maritzburg showed that if you allow them spaces, they can move in between. The rest of the half was a bit give and take.
“We changed a couple of things at half-time, I thought the boys were very brave second half. They pressed very, very high and pressed well.
“I thought we took the drama out of it in the second half, it became more comfortable. The goal, I’m very pleased it came from a set piece and I thought the win was deserved.
Baxter insisted his side looked more comfortable in the second and deserved the goal as well as the win at a stadium where not many Chiefs coaches have picked up three points.
“The first 20 minutes of the first half we played better, but the second 20 minutes was very passive, very stretched out,” he added.
“If you compare it to that the second half was more compact, was aggressive, we were lively. We looked like we were going to score. The boys worked very hard, it’s difficult coming off a break with players coming back.
“Are they up to speed? Are they mentally down after an international break? Are they down and feet on the ground and working again? I thought that they showed they were.
“It’s a very difficult place to come, you can ask any Kaizer Chiefs coach and I’m really pleased we got the three points today.”
