Baxter – What ‘Exciting’ Sekgota Must Do

Stuart Baxter has revealed that he had a personal chat with Kgaogelo Sekgota to explain what he expects of the “exciting” new Chiefs signing.

The Amakhosi coach has praised Sekgota after his second-half cameo in the Carling Black Label Cup, which has excited the coaching stuff and fans.

However, Baxter insisted Sekgota needs to find the right balance and understand how perform within the team’s structure, while also staying grounded amid all the hype around him.

“KG is a player that is an exciting player,” Baxter said during a press conference.

“He is an exciting player and when he played his first game for us he gave an exciting performance, which in turn will excite our fans. That word in football, we like that in football, don’t we?

“We like to have exciting games, exciting performances and exciting players. KG is one of those players that can excite the crowd.

“The challenge that he has is to be focussed, so that you can do what you can do and be in a team structure so that we can also maximise that, getting the ball to you when you should get it.

“You getting the positions that we need you to take. That balance is keeping him grounded at the moment.

“We don’t encourage our players to become ‘validation junkies’ on social media. I think the players should’ve a lot of confidence and dare to express themselves, even when social media is not making them the flavour of the month.

“I’ve had a conversation with KG and I think we know what we want from each other. I’ll be there helping him to try to stay grounded and at the same time make sure he gives what he can give because that’s exciting.”

Sekgota could get his first Chiefs start on Sunday, when the Glamour Boys face Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 quarter-final.
