Benni – The Truth About Pirates ‘Talks’
Benni McCarthy has broken his silence on reports claiming he met Orlando Pirates for talks about taking over from Joseph Zinnbauer.
The 43-year-old has returned to South Africa this week following an extended holiday with his family and is raring to go into his second campaign with Usuthu.
McCarthy had been linked with a move to Pirates, with reports stating he had gone awol at AmaZulu. However, he’s put the record straight on those claims, saying he not spoken to anyone at Orlando Stadium.
“On the question that was asked, that I’ve had discussions with Orlando Pirates. No I’ve not had discussion with anyone,” he said on Marawa Sport Worldwide.
“I was not approached by Pirates, I haven’t had a chat with the chairman or anyone of Orlando Pirates for that matter.
“Orlando Pirates has their own coaches and I’m sure they are very happy and content with what they have. So I didn’t have any meetings or discussions of the taking the job at Orlando Pirates.”
McCarthy also explained that he still has two years left on his AmaZulu contract and is looking forward to the new tasks ahead.
“I’ve got two more years on my contract,” he added.
“So that’s still a long time for me to go and achieve a lot of things here at AmaZulu. I’m happy and the way things look, I’m gonna finish my contract here at the club.
“But a lot of things can happen in football, a lot of things always changes in an instant, so new contract and all that, it will come I think.”
