Chiefs Hands Downs Blow In Title Race

Kaizer Chiefs dismantled Mamelodi Sundowns chances of winning DStv Diski Challenge title after a 2-2 draw at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

However, Amakhosi are out of the title race after failing to win against Sundowns on Sunday. Chiefs’ fate was not in their hands coming into the game knowing very well a win for Stellenbosch FC will kick them out of the race.

The Ephefeni glamour boys were led by club legend David Mathebula since head coach Vela Khumalo is out of the country with South Africa U17. Mathebula’s side held Downs by 2-2 after they were reduced to 10-man.

But the draw now leaves second-placed Sundowns three points behind leaders Stellies. The Cape Winelands side beat Cape Town City 4-0 in the Western Cape derby, with Thulani Mini grabbing a hat-trick.

Orlando Pirates’ fate is no longer in their hands despite beating Chippa United by 1-0 at Lucas Moripe Stadium. The Buccaneers are eight points behind Stellies as it stands.

DDC results:
Chippa United 0-1 Orlando Pirates
Cape Town Spurs 1-2 Sekhukhune United
SuperSport United 3-2 Royal AM
Polokwane City 2-2 TS Galaxy
Mamelodi Sundowns 2-2 Kaizer Chiefs
Stellenbosch 4-0 Cape Town City
Moroka Swallows 3-1 AmaZulu
