Bafana Bafana finished level on points with Ghana and level on goal difference, so here is why the Black Stars ended Group G ahead of South Africa.
Hugo Broos’ men lost 1-0 in Ghana on Sunday thanks to a first-half penalty converted by Andre Ayew.
Bafana tried to find an equaliser but to no avail, which meant the Black Stars overtook South Africa on the log based on more goals score.
Both teams ended up on 13 points and both ended up with a +4 goal difference. However, Ghana’s seven goals scored (7-3) meant the Black Stars qualified over Bafana’s six (6-2).
As per FIFA rules, first tie breaker is goal difference and second tie breaker is goal scored, before head-to-head record.
