Ahead of their CAF Champions League game against Al-Hilal on Friday, Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana says that the players are ready to represent the badge as they go for their fifth win in the group stages.
Kekana looks set for a return to the Sundowns team, having last played at the end of the January. He has missed out on all the club’s group stage matches so far.
But as Manqoba Mngqithi confirmed last month, Kekana is still the club captain and a key player at the club.
Kekana told the Sudanese media that they are looking forward to the game, but they are here with a mission.
“Firstly, let me just say we are happy to be in Sudan,” Kekana said at the pre-match press conference.
“We are here with a mission, we are here with the responsibility that we’re carrying to represent the club Mamelodi Sundowns.”
“We’re here to really play against a very very very good team, a team that has so much history in the game of football, but we are here ready to try and showcase that we always want to prove that we want to play football, in a good manner though.”
“It’s a responsibility that we are carrying to try and always play the game in the right way. And ja, we we are here to enjoy and we are here to always try to play the game.”
Kekana says that while they have already qualified for the last eight, Sundowns always play to win, and it’s entrenched in them as part of the club culture.
“Well, we have created a culture at Mamelodi Sundowns of winning matches and we want to continue winning matches.”
“Ja, we want to continue going forward with the mentality and obviously that will help us really to look at ourselves as a team that there is still so much improvement that we need to still need to make.”
“But with the technical team that we have, they’re trying so hard to really really help us in the in that department.”
“So as a team I think we’ve got bigger goals we’ve got bigger responsibilities on our shoulders to always carry the brand of Mamelodi Sundowns and win matches for the club.”
“So we can’t be satisfied with our achievement, we just have to go and win the matches.”
