Orlando Pirates co-caretaker coach Mandla Ncikazi says it was very disappointing not to pick up maximum points against Cape Town City.
Ncikazi saw his side draw 1-1 against Cape Town City in the DStv Premiership over the weekend.
Pirates occupy sixth spot on the league’s table with 9 points, they won two, drawn three and lost one so far.
“I’m highly disappointed about the result. I thought the dominance and dominance of possession should have given us the result,” Ncikazi said after the match.
“Maybe lessons going forward that possession for possession is not good enough, it must turn into opportunities to score. Second half I thought, whether it was planned by our opponents or it was a forced change of their centre-back, it worked in their favor and against our structure.
“I thought structural we were very solid in the first half, but I don’t think we stayed into the same structure that we applied for the first half, based on how the opponents changed thereafter and the force change on our side, Olisa Ndah the new centre-back, it did not help our cause without saying that Tyson played badly. But I thought maybe with his presence and maybe with Tyson’s presence, things could have been different.
“But the biggest downfall I thought was we wanted to press as high as possible, which we did first half, second half we kept on dropping, dropping the line of confrontation which may be resulted also in a penalty when you defend no matter the structure, but to defend that tip into your health. You are going to make one mistake here, and then I thought we tested that part too much.
“And maybe it was our capacity to come out when you that deep, then have the capacity to come out on transition on a break so that to the opponents can recreate coming up.
“I’m just disappointed about the outcome. But again, Cape Town City is a good team, but when you are Pirates, all matches must be won because Pirates should be on top all the time.”
