Kaizer Chiefs have announced the new shirt number of Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, who will now don the #12, previously worn by legends such as Donald ‘Ace’ Khune and Patrick ‘Ace’ Ntsoelengoe.
The 21-year-old was wearing the 37 shirt since breaking into the first team in the 2017/18 campaign but will wear his new number from 2021/22 onwards.
“I am happy to be wearing jersey #12 because I’ve been told that it’s an iconic jersey for the Club and I’m willing to work hard and do my best,” Ngcobo told the club’s media department.
“I specifically know that coach Donald ‘Ace’ Khuse wore jersey number #12 and he’s a legend of the Club. I need to work hard to ensure my name is included in the list of those who made the jersey number famous.”
Patrick ‘Ace’ Ntsoelengo was the first Amakhosi player to make the jersey famous, wearing it between 1970 and 1988 during his 18 years with the club. He is still the club’s all-time top goal scorer with over 200 goals.
Other players who have worn the 12 include Khuse, Thabo ‘Tsiki-Tsiki’ Mooki and George Maluleka.
