Kaizer Chiefs defender Njabulo Ngcobo has reacted to his late call up to the national team after initially missing out on the squad.
The reigning DStv Premiership Defender of Season was initially not included in Hugo Broos’ final 23-man squad, but got a late call after Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Mothobi Mvala picked up a slight injury.
Ngcobo says he was already at home when he got the call but will always be ready to play for Bafana.
“For me being here, I’m always ready to come here,” he told the national team’s media department.
“Now, I was already being home because Kaizer Chiefs were giving as a break.
“So I wasn’t here in Johannesburg but when I got the call I just took my stuff and came back.”
Ngcobo also says that the public outcry following his initial omission meant a lot to him before discussing his preferred style of play.
“For me, it means a lot that people believe in me and want to see me in the national team,” he added.
“I’m just really happy to be here.
“I’m always happy to see the team play nice football, than just playing to win. I think in our national we have players who can play football nice.
“I think we need to be strong mentally, physically we need to be there. As much as we can play a good football, which is what I believe we can.
“At the end of the day we need to win and we need to be strong.”
