Orlando Pirates seem close to agreeing to a R2 million deal for Monnapule Saleng, who was previously believed to be a target of Kaizer Chiefs.

iDiski Times has gathered that the Free State Stars’ winger could be set for a big money move to Orlando Stadium, with sources saying the two clubs are close to reaching an agreement.

Saleng was Ea Lla Koto’s stand out player this season, scoring thirteen goals as the club finished fifth in the South African second tier.

This is not the first time the 23-year-old has been linked with a DStv Premiership outfit, as it is believed that Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United were also monitoring the player who can play in various attacking positions.

Saleng joined Stars two seasons ago after catching the eye playing for ABC Motsepe side, Orbit College, following in the footsteps of players like Pogiso Sanoka, Mohau Mokate, and Sibusiso Hlubi, who had also stepped up from Orbit into the professional ranks.

While he impressed for Stars in the 2019/2020 season, he only managed one goal in his 22 appearances, but this season his tally of 13 in 29 games see him top the goal chart in the second tier.

“Pirates are negotiating with Free State for Monnapule,” the source told iDiski Times.

“They’ve already agreed on a 2 million price tag, he is the top goal scorer in the NFD.”
