Pirates End Komphela Speculation

Orlando Pirates have ended speculation that Steve Komphela could join the club to replace Josef Zinnbauer, at least for now.

Komphela had been linked with a move to Orlando Stadium, in particular after his former assistant Mandla Ncikazi joined the club.

However, a compensation clause in his contract with Mamelodi Sundowns is believed to have held up the move.

Pirates’ administrative officer Floyd Mbele already stated that Zinnbauer has returned to the club for pre-season and also insisted that there is “no truth” in the Komphela talk.

“I’m not too sure why coach Steve has been linked to Pirates? Is it because of his past with Mandla? But coach Steve went to Pirates and coach Mandla wasn’t there, he was at Maritzburg,” he told Thabiso Mosia on SAFM.

“I’m not too sure what has lead this flurry of coach Mandla Ncikazi came in, therefor coach Steve Komphela is coming.

“Coach Steve is employed by Mamelodi Sundowns, congratulation to them for having won the inaugural DStv Premiership.

“But there is no ounce of truth that Steve Komphela is coming to Orlando Pirates, certainly not at the moment, no.”
