Rulani Gives Downs Injury Update Ahead Of Chiefs

Mamelodi Sundowns co-head coach Rulani Mokwena has confirmed that his side will be without Khuliso Mudau and Lebo Maboe, who will the coach says is a big loss to the team.

Mokwena addressed local media ahead of his side’s clash against Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday, which will be the second clash between both teams this season after Downs beat Amakhosi on penalties in the MTN8 quarter-final.

“We have (Khuliso) Mudau still struggling a little bit and we have to see what is his state, he is probably out of this match, not ready,” he said.

“We have the long-term injury of Lebo (Maboe), which for us is a massive, massive blow but have got enough depth in the squad to be able to deal with that.”

Mokwena, though, also had some good news, confirming that both Themba Zwane and Mosa Lebusa have returned to training and could make the match day squad.

“But other than that, it’s one or two niggling injuries. Themba Zwane still needs to pass a fitness test, Mosa Lebusa still has to pass a fitness test and complete a full training session,” he added.

“But apart from that we are moving in a very good space and a lot of credit needs to go to our medical department in the way they have dealt with the players during this period.

“When we had a couple off days, they came into the office and did a few extra sessions. Fantastic work being done behind the scenes and I think we sit with a much healthier squad going into a very difficult time for us.

“There is another FIFA break in October but thereafter it is until January, really cut-throat and we need everybody. We are in a position where it looks much better than it looked prior to the FIFA break.”
