Tinkler – There Are No Easy Games

Cape Town City have returned to the Mother City after their non-fixture against Kaizer Chiefs, and are preparing for Tuesday’s DStv Premiership match against Maritzburg United.

City had been scheduled to play Chiefs on Saturday, but while the Cape Town outfit followed procedures and went to the FNB Stadium, Chiefs were unable to host the game after suffering a massive Covid-19 outbreak at the club.

While the Chiefs matter will need to be resolved in the boardrooms, Eric Tinkler has now turned his focus to their next game, as they host Tinkler’s former team on Tuesday night.

“We have a game against Maritzburg United tomorrow,” Tinkler told the club’s media department.

“Obviously, the games are coming thick and fast now and this December period is an extremely important period to try and collect maximum points, especially the home matches.

“So I expect the players to take responsibility tomorrow, come out, produce a good performance, produce a winning performance, because it’s important for us, especially our home games to collect maximum points.

“There are no easy games, and there are no guarantees in this league. I don’t think anybody at the beginning of the season would have expected Sekhukhune to find themselves laying second in the league, themselves included.

“So you got to work extremely hard to collect maximum points, because there are no easy games. And I think it’s a mindset, you’ve got to have the right mindset, you can’t be producing the performances that you do against Mamelodi Sundowns and then drop your level when you’re playing against others.

“So if we can produce what we do against Mamelodi Sundowns against Maritzburg, then we stand a great chance of collecting all three points, but like I said, we’ve got to take responsibility and we’ve got to show up tomorrow that’s the most important factor.”
