With Kaizer Chiefs announcing six new signings on Friday, one name was missing from their list – Ruzaigh Gamildien. Here is why Amakhosi didn’t announce the signing of the striker.
The 32-year-old has had an impressive DStv Premiership campaign, scoring 11 goals in 24 appearances for Swallows.
Reports in local media stated that Gamildien had agreed to a one-year contract with Amakhosi at a time when Gavin Hunt was still in charge. However, Chiefs seemingly had a change of heart after the arrival of Stuart Baxter.
Swallows CEO Sipho Xulu confirmed this week that Gamildien is still on the books of his club after Chiefs apparently pulled out of the deal.
“He never left (laughs). Gamildien is still one of our players but, yes, since Chiefs haven’t come back to us, they might have decided otherwise,” Xulu told Kick Off.
“We have to continue as planned because his departure was going to interrupt our planning as well. We are happy he is no longer leaving.”
Kick Off also cite a source close to the deal, saying Swallows chairman David Mogoshoa “told the player Bobby (Motaung) said they were pulling out of the deal”.
While Gamildien is seemingly staying at Swallows, at least for now, Chiefs did announced the arrivals of Njabulo Ngcobo, Sifiso Hlanti and Kgaogela Sekgota, while Given Thibedi has been recalled from his loan.
