Bafana Striker Hits Double Figures Overseas

Bafana Bafana striker Bongokuhle Hlongwane bagged his 10th goal of the season in 17 starts as Minnesota United FC dispatched Kaizer Chiefs loanee Njabulo Blom’s St Louis City 3-1 in the Major Soccer League on Saturday night.

Hlongwane, 24, is slowly working his way back into Hugo Broos’ squad, and his latest form could give the Belgian mentor a reason to rope him back into the national team fold, having last featured in the 2-0 defeat to Rwanda in November 2023. He has so far netted four goals in 15 appearances for his country.

The former Maritzburg United frontman levelled matters for Minnesota in the 23rd minute, cancelling out Cedric Teuchert’s opener for St Louis in the 21st minute.

Here is Hlongwane’s goal:

Hlongwane’s current contract expires on 31 December 2024, but the club have a one-year option that they could trigger for the Bafana hitman.
