Foster, Veldwijk Impress – SA Players Abroad

Bafana Bafana strikers Lyle Foster and Lars Veldwijk were both on target this weekend as they put their hand up for national team recalls.

Foster, 21, netted two goals and grabbed an assist as Proximus League leaders Westerlo thrashed Lierse 5-1 while Veldwijk scored for a third consecutive match as Suwon beat league leaders Jeonbuk Hyundai 3-2.

For Foster, it’s a welcome boost of confidence, having scored his first goal for the club in a sensational Belgium Cup victory over top-flight Antwerp before the FIFA International break.

Meanwhile, Veldwijk has racked up 18 goals and five assists in his debut K-League season and is one goal off leading the top-flight scoring charts.

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho played a full 90 minutes for Danish Superliga side Viborg as they beat Odense 3-2, while Gift Links (AGF Aarhus) featured for his side in the 1-1 draw with FC Copenhagen.

Liam Jordan’s Helsingor are well on course for promotion to the Danish top-flight and he was part of their 4-1 victory over Fremad Amager to move them three points ahead of second-placed Lyngby.

It was a game to forget for Thulani Serero as the champions Al Jazira were humbled 5-1 by league leaders Al Ain – the veteran midfielder played the full 90 minutes.

Kurt Abrahams, also in the Belgian second-tier like Foster featured 10 minutes in KMSK Deinze moved into third place, 11 points off Westerlo after a 3-3 draw with Lommel SK.

In Sweden Allsvenskan Tashreeq Matthews, Luke Le Roux and Ryan Moon all earned starts but were on the losing end with a 1-0 defeat to title-chasing AIK.
