Kgatlana Beats Seoposenwe To Trophy In Mexico

Banyana Banyana star Thembi Kgatlana was instrumental in her side’s Tigres UANL’s Super Cup win against Jermaine Seoposenwe’s Rayadas de Monterrey in Mexico.

Kgatlana scored her side’s important second-half equaliser after Rayadas had taken a slender 1-0 lead into the break.

But Kgatlana equalised in the 50th minute, before teammate Stephany Mayor made it 2-1 after 69 minutes.

Nine minutes later, Seoposenwe equalised for Rayadas, but it was Tigres who had the last laugh when Nayeli Rangel netted the 3-2 win in the 87th minute – the first leg at Rayadas had ended goalless.

“I’m so happy, so emotional because three weeks ago we couldn’t qualify to go to the final,” Kgatlana said after the match.

“But today played final against Rayadas and we were at home with our people.

“I think the first half we didn’t do so good, but as soon as we didn’t come in the second half we showed that we wanted to win.”

It was Kgatlana’s first trophy in Mexico, with his side qualifying as 2023 Apertura winners. Rayadas, meanwhile, won the 2024 Clausura, which meant for both sides to meet in the Trofeo de Campeon de Campeones (Super Cup).
