Mokwena Remains Humble After Big Win

Wydad Athletic Club coach Rulani Mokwena says it’s important for his side to keep their feet on the ground following their 3-0 victory over JS Soulem in the Botola Pro on Saturday.

Wydad recorded back-to-back wins to move third place on the log with 22 points, five adrift of leaders RSB Berkane after 13 matches.

Mokwena applauded his side for ending the hoodoo against Soulem who got six points from them last season.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach added that the league is a tough one and it’s evident in the point difference on the standings and warned against being over excited about the win.

“Botola is very, very difficult the level of the teams is very close and there is no real stand-out team in the championship,” said Mokwena in his post-match.

“But I’m happy that as a club we show a lot of humility. We understand where we are and that’s very important. Part to being a good leader is understanding the direction and understanding the direction means understanding where you are in the present moment.

“And where we are in the present moment, it’s for the first time in a year we do back-to-back wins. It’s for the first time as a club we win two matches in a row in one year and that’s very important that we welcome this barrier and this milestone.

“And also, for the first time this season we do back-to-back wins and also we beat a team that last season we got zero points from. Soualem beat us home and away last season now we get a very good result against a very good team that normally we struggle against.

“So, these small little wins along the way help to give us confidence again to resurrect the club but we have to stay very humble. Humble and focused because it’s a very long way.

“This club deserves to be a big club, it is a big club by history by prestige by the fans, there’s huge expectations.

“So, we cannot get carried away and get excited by one victory. We have to stay humble, keep our feet on the ground and continue to work very, very hard, stay together as a team and give back to the club what it deserves, to the fans what they deserve.

“What I know is that we are very lucky to have a support base like this, so passionate, so intense and so loving. So, every single day we’ve got to show gratitude. Gratitude and humility will take us a very long way.”
