Sundowns Striker Set To Join SuperSport

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Etiosa Ighodaro is set to join SuperSport United on a season-long loan deal.

Ighodaro, according to iDiski Times sources, arrived in Durban on Wednesday where SuperSport have touched down to continue their pre-season preparations, including using the Prime Institute for Fitness at the 2010 World Cup semi-final venue.

The Nigeria international was on loan at Chippa United from Sundowns last season, scoring 10 league goals, just two behind joint-Golden Boot winners, Sundowns’ Peter Shalulile and Khanyisa Mayo of Cape Town City.

Overall, the 24-year-old scored 11 goals in 27 matches in all competitions, and his move away from Sundowns won’t come as a major surprise.

Ighodaro becomes the latest of a long list of trades between Sundowns and SuperSport in the PSL era, after Thapelo Maseko moved to Sundowns, while Grant Margeman joined Matsatsantsa, which was part of the Maseko transfer.

Last season Sundowns loaned Margeman and Thabang Sibanyoni to SSU for one campaign, and Ricardo Goss for two after signing Ronwen Williams.

After SuperSport have lost 10 players in this window through being sold or returns from loans to their parent clubs, Ighodaro will be their sixth signing ahead of the new season.

They have captured Washington Arubi, Phathutshedzo Nange, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Roland Pfumbidzai and Abdulrazack Moahmed Hamza.
