South Africa U23 midfielder Thabo Cele has revealed how close he really came to joining Kaizer Chiefs before joining Polish side Radomiak Radom.
The 24-year-old was linked with a move to Amakhosi after he impressed while playing at the Tokyo Olympics games in Japan in August.
Cele, though, joined Polish Ekstraklasa side Radomiak Radom on a three-year contract after his deal of joining the Soweto giants was failed to materialize.
The KZN academy product spoke to iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu in an interview for this week’s newspaper, saying he even pictured himself in Amakhosi colours already.
“As time went on it became strong that Thabo Cele is coming to Chiefs, and even the fans started feeling it that Thabo Cele would be an interesting signing for the club,” he told iDiski Times.
“And then the negotiations started to manifest in reality, as I said it almost happened, because I was also interested in joining the club. But at the end it didn’t happen.
“I was starting to see it happening because I was starting to ask myself questions, like how is it going be, the expectations, how am I going to cope, how I am going to react to certain things, certain pressures, the environment?
“Because the environment is different this side and that side, so yeah I was starting to think that this is happening, but I would not say I’m disappointed because I have this good opportunity here in Poland.”
