Mamelodi Sundowns are through to the final of the CAF Women’s Champions League Cosafa Qualifying tournament, after beating Zambia’s Green Buffaloes 1-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium.
While Sundowns dominated from the start, they didn’t find it as easy as they had in the group games, where they scored 18 goals in three matches.
Buffaloes frustrated the South Africans with some solid defence, and it took 43 minutes to finally break the deadlock, when Melinda Kgadiete finished off a move.
1-0 at the break, it was much of the same in the second half, with Sundowns threatening, but finding the going tough in the final third.
It is also wasn’t all one-way traffic, and with a narrow scoreline, there were moments of concern for the South Africans as Buffaloes tried to find an equaliser
But in the end Kgadiete’s goal enough was to book Sundowns’ place in the final.
They will play Zimbabwe’s Black Rhinos in the final, after the Zimbabweans beat Botswana’s Double Action Ladies 2-0 in the other semi.
