AmaZulu head coach Brandon Truter has credited his players for their 1-0 win over Maritzburg United, but admits it wasn’t a game that was ‘easy on the eye.’
Usuthu’s 1-0 victory, their second successive win since Truter took over, sees them in seventh position on the DStv Premiership log, on 34 points. Maritzburg are twelfth on 23 points.
Truter said it wasn’t a pretty game, as Maritzburg made it difficult by playing a direct game, especially in the second half.
“Not an easy game at all and not a game that’s easy on the eye as well,” Truter told the club’s media department.
“Not a game that you would enjoy watching. but Maritzburg made it so difficult for us, in terms of the long ball, I think we went in 1-0 at halftime after the own goal – if that didn’t happen, we would have scored it, because there was two players behind the guy who scored the own goal.
“And then also I think from the chances created throughout the game, we had the more clear chances. Majoro, one-v-one, and also Memela one-v-one. But Maritzburg made it difficult and it was an ugly game to watch.
“He put four strikers up front in the second half and I would do the same if I was in his situation with the relegation fight. So ja, they threw everything at us. And once the long ball came, but we dealt with everything that he threw at us.
“So ja, once that happened and you put balls into the box, you’re not dangerous if we keep on defending it. So it’s not about us looking that we were under pressure, we were organized, we dealt with everything.
“Mobara walked away with the man of the match and from that situations also we could have scored, we could have wrapped the game up. I can’t remember him having a shot at goal or Maritzburg having a shot at goal in the second half. So well done to all the boys, credit must go to them.”
