Morena Makes Confident CAFCL Final Claim

Mamelodi Sundowns utility player Thapelo Morena is confident that his side can lift the new CAF Champions League trophy as champions over Pyramids FC in the next couple of days.

The title has eluded Sundowns for nine years as they have struggled to even make it to the finals of the tournament since winning it in 2016. They welcome Pyramids in the first leg of the final in Pretoria this weekend with the second leg scheduled for Egypt next weekend.

Morena told IDiski Times senior writer Matshelane Mamabolo in edition 205 of the newspaper that he and teammates are feeling confident having eliminated the defending champions en route the final and are in a victorious mood.

“That one is a big fish and we worked very hard to be where we are,” Morena told iDiski Times.

“It’s been almost nine years of us not being in the final [since Sundowns won it in 2016]. We’ve been knocked out in the quarters and the semi-finals, but we are in the final now.

“We are at that point, and why not, because we are confident after playing Al Ahly [in the semi-final] and winning.

“Going to the final, we are playing against Pyramids and we know they have a good squad. But we are capable of winning the game and lifting the Champions League trophy. Everyone is in the mood to win this trophy.”
