Orlando Pirates travel to neighbouring Botswana to take on Jwaneng Galaxy while Mamelodi Sundowns entertain Eswatini side Mbabane Swallows at ‘home’ in their CAF Champions League 2nd preliminary round first leg ties on 14 September.
The Buccaneers made light work of Madagascar champions Disciples FC in the previous round a fortnight ago with a thumping 4-0 win after the first leg was tied at 0-0 and will face a tricky clash against the Botswana double champions who needed penalties to beat African Stars from Namibia in their fixture.
Last season, Pirates suffered an embarrasing Champions League exit at the same stage of the competition against Galaxy, and will be out to avenge that loss. Sundowns on the other hand, made it all the way to the semifinals before being booted out by Esperance Sportive de Tunis.
Meanwhile, Sundowns, who were given a bye by virtue of being crowned league champions, get their continental journey up and running against Swallows who beat Ferroviario 1-0 on aggregate to book their place in the next round. The tie will be at Lucas Moripe Stadium even though it will be an away game for Sundowns as Eswatini still don’t have stadiums up to CAF standards.
