Stellies Set Ambitious Target

High-flying Stellenbosch FC has already achieved one of their goals for the season and are aiming to get the other one ticked at the end of the season.

Stellies didn’t start the season the way they would’ve wanted after losing three games in five and winning two.

Steve Barker’s side saw themselves close to relegation than the top four but never panicked.

Right at the end of September, they started to turn things around as they last lost an official match against Mamelodi Sundowns three months ago.

Since the loss against Sundowns, Stellies went on to reach the Carling Knockout final and won five league matches and drew one moving up to third place.

According to Thabo Moloisane, they aimed to reach a final this season, after failing to do so in the MTN8 following a heartbreaking away goal rule against Orlando Pirates they finally reached their first-ever final after beating Richards Bay in the semi-final.

Moloisane stated that their long-term goal is to finish in the CAF spot and either qualify for the Confederation Cup or the Champions League.

They currently sit in third place two points behind second-placed Cape Town City and seven points behind table-toppers Sundowns.

“In our planning in the pre-season camp, one of our goals was to reach the cup final and that is happening now,” Moloisane told the media.

“The second one was to finish the season in CAF position so if we can achieve all the plans that we have for the season will be a successful season for us.”
