Pitso’s Al Ahly Climb To Top Of The Log

Pitso Mosimane and Al Ahly have taken a massive step towards defending their Egyptian Premier League title on Wednesday evening, beating Wadi Degla 2-1.

Wadi Degla thought they received an early penalty inside the first three minutes but it was overturned after VAR review due to an offside in the build-up.

Al Ahly’s Afsha attempted a spectacular attempt on goal after 27 minutes but his bicycle kick was saved by the goalkeeper.

Afsha found himself again in a great position just a minute a before the break but instead of trying to convert himself he opted for a cross which didn’t find a teammate.

Mosimane’s side, though, scored immediately after the half-time break when Kahraba netted from the rebound after Mohamed Sherif’s initial attempt was stopped by the goalkeeper.

Al Ahly almost scored their second just four minutes later but Sherif’s header was parried by the goalkeeper.

However, the in-form striker did make it 2-0 in the 60th minute when a superb cross by Afsha found him unmarked at the far post.

Wadi Degla pulled one back in the 67th minute when the hosts hurt Al Ahly on the counter, which was converted by substitute Achmed Sherif.

However, Al Ahly managed to bring the three important points home, denying Wadi Degla any other real scoring opportunities.

Al Ahly, who are now unbeaten in 16 games in all competitions, moved level on 61 points after 27 games with Zamalek on the log but are ahead of their bitter rivals based on the better head-to-head record.

There are seven more league games left and Mosimane’s men have it in their own hands to defend their title.
