Baxter On Billiat & Manyama Ahead Of Downs
Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has confirmed that Lebogang Manyama has returned to full training, while he hopes that Khama Billiat will be ready after long travels during the international break.
The Englishman addressed local media on Thursday ahead of his side’s clash with Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday.
Baxter explained that he wants to wrap Billiat in cotton wool after his travels with Zimbabwe because he plays such an important role to the team.
“We’ve got Khama coming back from a long one (flight) and we need to make decisions on that,” Baxter said.
“Well, I think those decisions are probably a little bit more guilt-edged for me, because we don’t have that many players that can replace Khama with his quality.
“And so I’m really looking to maybe wrap him in cotton wool a little bit, yes, but certainly getting him ready for the game.”
The Amakhosi coach also stated that Manyama used the international break to get back onto the training pitch after his knee injury and is an option for the bench.
“Lebo has been training with us now. As he started training, we were rehabbing him into training,” he added.
“So he had a deficiency in strength that we weren’t happy with. So we didn’t put him into a normal training, he was having modified training and is now in full training.
“We’ve taken away those modifications, and he’s in full training and he played 15 minutes when we played the friendly game. And he played very well and he was comfortable, and he’s fired up. And he wants to be involved now, so I could select him on the bench.
“But that would be the maximum and, and I don’t think we will get more than 20-30 minutes out of him in terms of his football sharpness and fitness.”
Chiefs will take on Masandawana on Sunday at 17:00 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
