Orlando Pirates defender Innocent Maela admits the CAF Confederation Cup is one of the trophies the squad feels is attainable this season.
After a sluggish start to the 2021/22 season, things appear positive for the Buccaneers going into the new year as they are placed in second and in the Confederation Cup group stage.
Maela was one of the key players who returned to fitness just before the mid-season break and with coach Fadlu Davids speaking up the optimism to see their squad slowly return – the Bafana Bafana defender reiterated his confidence of returning in 2022 with a bang.
“It’s very important for us to start next year by stringing together a few wins in a row,” he told the club’s website.. “It’s also important for us to start the second half of the season on a high note.”
“The onus is on us to make sure that we face all the challenges, as difficult as it is, but we know that we’re fully capable.
“We’re not going to hold back, because we know that we have the opportunity to win the Confed Cup, plus there’s also the Nedbank Cup.
“So we are not going to hold back. We just have to keep working hard and respecting the processes in place.”
