Official: SA Talent Joins Ligue 1 Club

South African talent Ayanda Sishuba has signed a long-term contract with French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes.

Sishuba, 20, is the son of a former Bafana Bafana midfielder Asanda Sishuba, who played for various clubs in Belgium, including Royal Antwerp.

He had joined Serie A side Hellas Verona in the European summer window but failed to make an appearance for the Italian side.

The winger, who made his professional debut for French side Lens in 2023, has now returned to Ligue 1, penning a contract until June 2029 with Rennes.

Frederic Massara, Sporting Director of Stade Rennais said: “Ayanda is a technically gifted player. He will be able to continue his development in the best of environments. He’s an attack-minded lad who knows how to be unpredictable. He’s still young. He left to experience a different kind of football in Italy, but now he’s back in France and we’re delighted to be supporting him.”

Sishuba himself, expressed his happiness to be back in France: “Stade Rennais has always been an ambitious club, and so am I. I hope I can continue to grow with the club. I’ve had good feedback from Brice, Seko, Arnaud and Christopher. They reassured me that I had everything to succeed, and they know how motivated I am. I’ve had a glimpse of the new training center and it looks incredible. I can’t wait to train here and meet my new team-mates.”
