More Changes For Bafana

Bafana Bafana Coach Molefi Ntseki has been forced to make a few changes to the Bafana Bafana squad for their crucial Afcon qualifiers against Ghana and Sudan this week.

Keagan Dolly, Bongani Zungu, Dean Furman and Thulani Serero have all not been released by their clubs due to Covid-19 protocols.

Ntseki has had to turn to local players, and while iDiski Times reported earlier today that Thabo Nodada had received a call-up, we can now confirm that Ntseki has also called up Thabiso Kutumela, Mothobi Mvala, Lebohang Maboe, Thabang Monare and Vincent Pule.

“We have called up 30 players. And with the 30 players, we have a situation here of European teams refusing to release players,” Ntseki said at Monday’s press briefing.

“So because of that, we won’t be replacing anybody until this matter has been finalized to say Bongani Zungu is not coming, Dean Furman is not coming, Serero is not coming, and also Keegan is not coming. So we are still negotiating with the clubs to see if ever they can release those players. If they can’t come to join us here in Johannesburg in South Africa and play against Ghana, they will be able to join us in Sudan.”

“But that is something that we are negotiating with the clubs so that if ever they do release the players, if the issue of COVID is South Africa, then we need to have those players in Sudan. If the issue of COVID is Africa, then we won’t to have those players coming for this camp. So that is the situation we are in now.”

“There are five players that we also added to the team. That is Vincent Pule from Orlando Pirates. We also included Thabang Monara, from Pirates, Lebohang Maboe from Sundowns, and Mothobi Mvala from Sundowns, Thabo Nodada from Cape Town City, and Thabiso Kutumela, from Maritzburg United.”

“So these are the players that were called up after the challenges we’re faced with when it comes to player release.”

Bafana host Ghana on Thursday, before heading to Sudan three days later, and while it is yet to be confirmed, there is hope that some of the players who weren’t released, could join up with Bafana for that fixture.
