New Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Edson Castillo played his final game for Monagas on Thursday evening as his new journey in South Africa beckons.
The 29-year-old midfielder has been a long-term target for Amakhosi and while they opted not to sign him in January, they secured his services for the 2023/24 season, as reported by this website earlier this month.
While he’s been signed as a midfielder who can feature in a six and an eight role, in his final game for Monagas in the Copa Libertadores, he was deployed as a centre-back.
His side were thumped 4-0 by Group F winners Boca Juniors as they bowed out of the competition with one win, two draws and three defeats in six games.

He’s now bid his farewell ahead of his move to South Africa after a short stint at his former club which has seen him 13 out of 18 games, whilst he netted a memorable hattrick on his first game upon his return.
Castillo is set to arrive next in the country next week and is expected to be unveiled alongside fellow new signings Given Msimango, Pule Mmodi, Ranga Chivaviro, Mduduzi Mdantsane and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe with new head coach Molefi Ntseki.
