Tembo – We Want To Try And Finish Strong
SuperSport United head coach Kaitano Tembo says his team is motivated for Wednesday’s Tshwane derby against Mamelodi Sundowns, and both teams have a lot to play for.
While victory for the league leaders would confirm them as the DStv Premiership champions, Tembo’s team also have a lot to play for, as he says they want to finish higher than their current sixth position.
While Sundowns have been active in the CAF Champions League, it is now two weeks since SuperSport played their last game, when they beat Tshakhuma 1-0. Tembo says while the rest has been welcome, he wouldn’t have minded building on that victory.
“Look, I think we’ve had enough time to rest and as well as give more time to the guys who haven’t played, guys who are coming back from injury,” Tembo told SuperSport’s media department.
“So these 14 days really helped. But at the same time, I think coming off a very good win against TTM we needed to continue playing, to continue with the momentum. So this break, you don’t really know how you’re going to fare on the day because of the break.
“But at the same time, I think in terms of preparations, preparations have been very, very good. Players are looking forward to the game. Very important game for us as a team, because we want to try and finish as high as we can, so this game is very key to us.”
Tembo says it should be an interesting game as not only is it a derby, but both teams have a lot to play for.
“Look, it’s, it’s a derby and you know derbies you cannot really predict in terms of results. But I think in terms of performance, both teams are really looking forward to the game. And it’s a game where players don’t really need any motivation because it’s a derby.
“We are in a situation whereby we want to try and finish strong, finish our season very strong whereas they’re also in a position where they can win the league, with a win against us.
“So there’s a lot to play for, for both teams. That’s why it’s gonna be a very interesting game. I think we are looking forward to the game, we want to try and get a positive result in nothing. The boys are also really motivated. They’re looking forward to the game.”
