Former Liverpool Man Praises Miquissone

Former Liverpool defender Abel Xavier was full of praise for Pitso Mosimane’s new signing, Luis Miquissone, saying the winger “will be a difference maker” for Al Ahly.

Miquissone joined Mosimane’s side during the recent transfer window from Simba SC, reuniting with his former coach from Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 26-year-old made his debut in the Egyptian Super Cup defeat on penalties and also featured in his side’s Egyptian Cup victory over ENPPI.

Xavier, who played for Liverpool during an 18-year-long playing career, knows Miquissone from his stint as national team coach of Mozambique and praised the new Al Ahly winger.

“I recognized Miquissone’s talents when I was coaching Mozambique, he fills multiple roles on the pitch,” he said, as per Kingfut.

“He will be a difference maker with Al Ahly, he’s very quick and can play on both wings.

“Miquissone spoke to me before moving to Al Ahly, I encouraged him to move because I believe it is a big step in his career.”

Miquissone was on the books of Sundowns between January 2018 and January 2020, but never actually played for Masandawana in official match after being loaned out to Chippa United, Royal Eagles and UD Songo before joining Simba.

At Simba, he impressed during last season’s CAF Champions League campaign, awaking the interest of Mosimane and Al Ahly.
