Stellenbosch head coach Steve Barker has expressed his excitement over their CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final draw against reigning champions Zamalek.
The White Knights have won the competition twice in the last six years, added to their five CAF Champions League titles.
As one of the most successful clubs in African football history, the draw is as hard as it gets, with the Egyptian side and RS Berkane they overwhelming favourites for the title.
“I think playing a team of such calibre of Zamalek is exciting. A giant on the continent of Africa, serial Champions League winners, defending champions of the Confederation Cup so I think there is a lot of excitement and anticipation for that clash,” Barker said, as per CAF Online.
“Looking forward to it because they are a team that is well established with massive pedigree behind them. There is a big challenge ahead of us but one that we relish. We look forward to playing in these competitions against teams like Zamalek.”
While Stellenbosch has been a club punching above their weight as a young ambitious club in their debut season in the competition, Barker concedes whatever team they were drawn with, they would have been tagged as an underdog for a place in the semi-finals.
“We were always going to be an underdog no matter who we drew, but we pride ourselves in being a team that is full of commitment and resilience,” he added.
“We want to make our own mark on the continent, and this provides us that opportunity.”
