Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly returned to winning ways on Saturday after beating ENPPI Club 2-0.
The hosts had to start the game without injured striker Mohamed Sherif, who has a slight hamstring issue that will keep him sidelined for at least a week.
Al Ahly scored an early opener after Walter Bwalya headed the ball in following a corner to give Mosimane’s men a lead inside three minutes.
The favourites made it 2-0 after 28 minutes when Afsha finished off a superb team move after being set up by Kahraba.
Bwalya missed a great chance to make it 3-0 when his shot from inside the box just missed the far post after 33 minutes.
ENPPI came better out of the break and had a couple of half chances but failed to find the back of the net to really threaten Al Ahly.
Al Ahly visibly took the foot off the gas following their two-goal lead at the break and after having played many three-game weeks recently.
Things weren’t made easier for ENPPI when Rami Sabri got sent off in the 81st minute for a bad foul in midfield.
The victory saw Mosimane’s side keep pace with Zamalek who had beaten Ismaily, the team that Al Ahly dropped points against in midweek, 2-0 earlier on Saturday.
Zamalek lead the Egyptian Premier League log by 70 points, with Al Ahly following two points behind, with four games still to be played.
