Baxter – What I Told Kambole Before His Goal
Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has revealed what he told Lazarous Kambole before the Zambian striker bagged his first goal for Amakhosi in over a year.
The 27-year-old was placed on the transfer-list by the club but injuries to Samir Nurkovic and Leonardo Castro has seen him come back into Baxter’s fold.
He made his second sub appearance of the season against Chippa United and scored the fourth goal in the 4-0 rout.
Baxter explained that Kambole earned his playing time in training and he told him ahead of his appearance that he should draw confidence from how he acts on the training pitch.
“I said to him before the game, ‘You are going to go on tonight at some stage and you are going to go on confident because you had a very good week’s training’,” Baxter told reporters.
“He went on and he was confident. The goal, quite rightly, should be a big thing for him because he can draw a line in the sand and from now, he can kick on.
“So, we will see where that leads us.”
Baxter also highlighted how important Kambole’s work in training has been but insisted he is a different kind of striker than the other options at the club right now.
“I think more important for Laz is that he’s had a very good week’s training. I don’t think Laz is the same type of striker as a Bernard Parker or a Khama Billiat,” he added.
“He is one that’s going to work in behind back fours and we’ve got to get to know him and use him to do that.
“So, it’s important to start timing his movements and know when to go link with the players and I think we’ve got to know that as well. He’s had a very good week’s training.”
Kambole might get another chance to feature for the Glamour Boys when they take on SuperSport United in their next DStv Premiership encounter on Sunday.
