Wydad Athletic Club head coach Rulani Mokwena has insisted that the January transfer window is very important for the club, even though it will be difficult to add quality players.
Wydad moved into fifth place with their 2-1 win over Union Touarga on Sunday, and are currently four points behind the CAF Champions League spots.
Mokwena’s side have won eight out of their 18 games, drawing six and losing four, and the South African tactician has insisted the club needs to look at signings in January.
“The mercato is very important for us,” he said after securing back-to-back wins.
“It’s a difficult window because you have to try to improve the team and get players that number one have game rhythm, that they are playing is very important.
“And not a lot of clubs want to release players that are playing and that are important for them. And number two, we have to get players that are better than what we already have – and we’ve got very good players.
“I don’t think our defensive per se, because the challenges are a little bit deeper than that. That’s something that the club needs to work very, very hard to resolve.
“You will not find me coming here and criticise the players, but I will accept that we have a lot of challenges. We have to improve and we have to improve fast. Because maybe at this moment, the reaction only in the second half is too late.
“I told them I’m tired of being the most passionate person at Wydad, I’m tired of being the only that really is pushing and wants the people to win and the club to do well.
“Everybody has got to have this, because this is a big club in a big year for this club.
Wydad are back in action on 19 January when they will face ninth-placed DHJ.
